Unilever, a leading global consumer goods company, wanted to improve its Perfect Store execution but lacked reliable, real-time visibility into on-shelf availability and share of shelf across its 25 million retail outlets. To address this challenge, Unilever worked with Pensa Systems and its data-as-a-service offering to better understand what was actually happening on store shelves.

Pensa Systems implemented continuous in-store shelf monitoring in a pilot across Turkey using mobile phones and autonomous drones, with AI and computer vision to analyze shelf conditions and deliver near-real-time reporting by day, SKU, and store. The solution uncovered hidden stockouts, planogram issues, and product transition problems, helping Unilever identify opportunities to increase competitive share of shelf by up to 4 percentage points and reduce stockouts by up to 9 percentage points, with a potential revenue uplift of up to 4.5%.
