Case Study: a leading confectionery company boosts self-checkout candy availability, revenue, and profits with Pensa Systems

A Pensa Systems Case Study

Preview of the Leading Confectionery Company Case Study

Driving candy revenue and profits through self checkout operational excellence

Pensa Systems worked with a leading confectionery company and a strategic grocery retail partner to address a hidden on-shelf availability problem in store. During COVID-19, falling traffic and growing digital adoption made physical retail less predictable, and while inventory levels did not initially suggest an issue, the brand wanted to protect candy sales by ensuring strong shelf availability at key checkout locations.

Using Pensa Systems’ shelf visibility insights, the team found that self-checkout had materially lower on-shelf availability than expected, at 68.1% for the brand versus 76.7% for the category, with high volatility throughout the day. Based on these findings, retail leadership changed replenishment processes to multiple times per day for checkout areas, improving availability, revenue, and profitability through better self-checkout operational excellence.
