SGN, the gas distribution network operator across Scotland and the south of England, needed a better way to reduce third-party damage to its assets and improve safety for people working near its 74,000km pipeline network. PelicanCorp provided the LinesearchbeforeUdig (LSBUD) online safe digging portal to help SGN give contractors, utilities, councils, developers and the public easy access to pipe location information and safety guidance.

Using PelicanCorp’s LSBUD solution, SGN automated plan responses and turned its plant protection process into an active asset management platform. The result was a rise to more than 40,000 enquiries per month, a 1600% increase in requests, and a cut in average response time from over 15 days to just 4 minutes, enabling far safer work around SGN’s network.
