Stars and Stripes, an independent multimedia news publisher serving the U.S. military community (about 1.4 million daily readers), partnered with Pelcro to modernize its paywall after growing its subscriber base nearly fivefold since 2019. The publisher’s old two‑button modal felt dated, lacked plan details and value messaging, and failed to communicate how subscription fees support its mission, so Stars and Stripes requested a custom UI to improve conversions and the reader journey.
Pelcro delivered a custom, page‑wide metered paywall with a free‑article countdown, streamlined purchase prompts, elevated branding, a banner‑style modal and built‑in FAQs so readers can decide without leaving the page. The deployment was seamless with no issues, and the revamped paywall is expected to significantly boost conversions and retention while clearly conveying how subscriptions support the publication.
