L’actualité, a long-standing Canadian news magazine owned by MishMash Media, needed to replace a legacy paywall built for print that offered limited online functionality and little room to experiment. The team wanted a modern, adaptable subscription approach that wouldn’t drive readers away while enabling better digital conversion and data-driven marketing.
Pelcro was implemented in April 2019 with a same-page, streamlined, multi-step paywall, minimal form fields, an integrated single source of subscriber data, an email paywall for metered access, and self-serve account management. Within six months L’actualité reported a 13% increase in gross revenue, a 134% rise in customers paying by credit and activating auto-renewals, and a 64% decrease in customer support tickets.
