Times Review Media Group, publisher of several New York‑based community titles, needed a calculated way to introduce reader revenue for publications that had been free. They partnered with Pelcro to add a paywall to E‑editions and selectively gate “premium” articles while preserving free access to other content.
Pelcro integrated with the publisher’s E‑reader and print systems, launched a metered paywall (three free premium articles), added auto‑renewals and on‑site self‑service account tools. Early results were strong: The Suffolk Times saw an 8.5× revenue increase after one month and a 421% rise in new subscribers; after seven months the portfolio reported a roughly 150× increase in gross revenue, 85% of digital subscribers on auto‑renew, stable bounce rates, and reduced support workload.
