A Peerless-AV Case Study
Douglas College needed a large-scale presentation system for its open-air Campus Centre atrium that would preserve the space’s aesthetics while being viewable from many angles, support multiple uses (information, presentations, signage, video), and not disrupt normal traffic or sightlines. Commercial solutions couldn’t meet strength, durability and motion requirements for a heavy, movable display, so Douglas College engaged the Peerless-AV Custom Solutions Team to develop a tailored mounting solution.
Peerless-AV designed and fabricated a custom hinged mounting system for a 3×3 video wall of nine 46" NEC displays (about 1,800 pounds total), with needle and bronze bearings, independent screen access, and a balanced mechanism so one person can change viewing angle. The mount was tested at four times the required weight, met seismic guidelines, shipped to British Columbia, and was installed and unveiled on September 22, 2011 — delivered on time and on budget — resulting in a strong, efficient, and aesthetically integrated display that improved campus communication and presentation flexibility.
