Preview of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Case Study

D.C. Transit System Weatherproofs New Passenger Travel Alert System with 110 Ciil® Xtreme™ Outdoor Displays

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) needed a “know before you go” digital signage system to warn riders about track work, outages and special-event service changes at its 88 Metrorail stations. WMATA required displays that could survive rain, snow, dust, pressure washing and extreme temperatures, so it selected Peerless-AV and its Ciil Xtreme outdoor displays to meet those harsh environmental demands.

Peerless-AV supplied 110 Ciil Xtreme 47” sealed displays with EPT650 outdoor mounts, integrated with Cisco media players and X‑Factor’s DSCP content platform to deliver localized, real‑time advisories at kiosk entrances across all 88 stations. The IP68/NEMA6-rated, -40° to +140°F capable solution gives more than 700,000 daily riders advance notice of disruptions and event routing, helping commuters change plans before passing the fare gate and improving overall customer communications.
