Flatiron Health migrated Terabytes of data from Postgres to Snowflake using PeerDB

Flatiron Health, a healthtech company, faced the challenge of securely migrating terabytes of sensitive patient data from PostgreSQL to Snowflake. They needed a solution that would operate within their closed network for security, handle the scale of thousands of tables, and be easy to use without extensive engineering resources. Most tools they evaluated were either fully hosted or could not reliably manage the multi-terabyte migration, leading them to discover PeerDB.

PeerDB provided an open-source solution that was deployed within Flatiron's private network, ensuring data security. Using PeerDB's SQL layer and UI, Flatiron efficiently managed the replication of 35,000 tables. Leveraging PeerDB's unique parallel snapshotting feature, they successfully migrated 2.5TB of data in a single day, a process that would have taken weeks with other tools, saving substantial engineering resources.
