Usiminas, Latin America’s largest flat steel producer, needed to boost employees’ Business English to support global communication and competitiveness. Its initial classroom program reached fewer than 200 people, was costly and hard to scale, so the company sought a more “democratic,” cost‑effective way to expand access to language training.
In 2011 Usiminas adopted GlobalEnglish Edge, a cloud‑based, on‑demand Business English platform. The lower cost let the company grow subscribers to about 650 by March 2012; 92% of users were satisfied, 90% said their workplace communication improved, 93% found the training relevant, 87% applied lessons on the job and 68% saved more than an hour per week—driving higher productivity, wider adoption and plans to add the LinGo Pro mobile app.
