Deloitte, a global accounting services firm that grew from under 30,000 to over 155,000 employees since 2000, declared English its official language to support rapid expansion into markets like China, India, Brazil and Russia. The company found classroom-based training inadequate and inconsistent, leaving many staff without the English business-communication skills needed for efficient global collaboration and client service.

Deloitte deployed Pearson English Business Solutions (formerly GlobalEnglish) starting in 2000—an entirely online, scalable program delivered in multiple languages with local account support—and expanded it to more than 30 countries and over 2,500 employees. The program produced strong results: 86% satisfaction, average productivity gains of about 3.5 hours per week per user, lower recruiting and expat costs, improved retention in non-English markets, and better teamwork and client service through clearer communication.
