Qualcomm pioneers wearable computing over 5 years with Pearl Studios

Pearl Studios partnered with Qualcomm, a technology pioneer, to help imagine and create the world's first wearable computing devices, a new industry that did not exist at the time. The challenge was to pack a full smartphone system into a tiny, wearable form factor that felt comfortable on the wrist.

Pearl Studios invented new processes and prototyped solutions, including integrating a world-phone antenna into a watch strap and using a unique staggered construction to hide the device's size. This work paved the way for the modern wearable industry. Additionally, Pearl Studios helped design the Lifecomm device for senior citizens, which featured fall detection and connectivity and was later acquired by Verizon.
