A PBWorks Case Study
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine used PBworks to solve logistical and instructional challenges in its first‑year Introduction to Clinical Medicine I course, which serves about 115 students working in 15 small groups. Instructors needed a reliable, flexible way to present course materials, collect frequent student reflections into individual portfolios, organize a large volume of work, and create a private dialogue for feedback — problems that prior tools (Blackboard, email, paper) handled poorly.
They implemented a central course workspace plus 15 small‑group workspaces on PBworks, with private student folders for portfolio entries and instructor feedback, supported by brief annual training sessions. The result was streamlined submission and feedback workflows, easier content updates, improved instructor–student communication, and consistently positive responses from both students and instructors about the enhanced course experience.
