Thorntons, a leading independent gasoline and convenience retailer operating across six states, wanted a better way to manage localized charity campaigns and report on donation results. To support its new Refreshing Rewards loyalty program, Thorntons used the Paytronix Loyalty Platform, including the Paytronix Rules and Wallets engine, to connect customer engagement with its community giving efforts.

With Paytronix, Thorntons launched a matching gift campaign for the Cardinal Athletic Fund that accepted donations in-store and at the pump, updated promotion data daily, and communicated with customers and store managers through targeted messaging. The campaign raised over $6 million total, with guests donating $3 million and Thorntons matching that amount, helping the University of Louisville reach its goal and giving Thorntons a scalable model for future local campaigns.
