Arriva, Europe’s largest transport provider, operates 3,500 buses in the UK and set out to move customers from paper tickets to mobile bookings. To do this it needed a seamless, mobile-optimised in-app payment experience—users had been deterred by a cumbersome checkout and limited payment options.
Arriva integrated Braintree Direct to streamline its mobile payments and add PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay, creating a frictionless checkout. In under a year this drove a 70% increase in in‑app sales and grew mobile ticket journeys from 12 million to almost 29 million, with a significant share processed via the new mobile payment methods.
