Workana Expanding Beyond Latin America into the Southeast Asia Market

Workana, Latin America's largest freelance marketplace, set out to expand beyond its home region into Southeast Asia to connect local freelancers with global clients. After six years of rapid growth—building a platform used by more than 1 million freelancers—Workana faced the challenge of entering new markets (the Philippines, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore) while ensuring reliable client access and cross-border payments.

Workana met the challenge by leveraging its experience and strategic partnerships with regional job platforms (Seek, JobStreet) and Payoneer to handle payments via Global Bank Transfer to local bank accounts or Payoneer cards. The expansion opens significant opportunity for Southeast Asian freelancers: Workana already hosts over 20,000 hiring companies each month and a notable share of roles (12%) are for permanent remote teams, enabling freelancers to win both project work and longer-term engagements globally.
