Case Study: Jumia achieves seamless, cost-effective cross-border payouts with Payoneer

A Payoneer Case Study

Preview of the Jumia Case Study

Jumia - Customer Case Study

Jumia, Nigeria’s largest online shopping mall launched in 2012, serves over 700,000 weekly visitors with 50,000 product items across 30+ categories and aims to give customers a convenient, affordable shopping experience. The company struggled to pay the majority of its sellers—based in China, Hong Kong and Malaysia—due to slow, costly cross-border transfers, high commissions and operational friction even after moving some operations to Europe.

Payoneer provided a secure, low-cost payments platform that lets Jumia pay sellers in 200 countries in 90+ local currencies, with funds withdrawable to local bank accounts or transferable within the Payoneer network. The service reduced time and fees, improved customer support for sellers, and helped Jumia onboard many more sellers from China and Hong Kong while expanding recruitment plans to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
