More Science, Less Admin: PayNorthwest Supports IDRI’s Mission by Bridging the Gap Between Grant Allocation and Payroll

IDRI, a Seattle-based non-profit research institute, needed a better way to bridge grant time tracking with payroll while also simplifying general ledger reporting and HR processes. Their existing setup relied on two separate, non-intuitive systems and required too much manual effort, making time allocation, payroll corrections, and annual reviews slow and error-prone. PayNorthwest, using its Workforce Lumina suite, including TimeLumina and PayLumina, was selected to solve these challenges.

PayNorthwest implemented a single, web-based repository for time tracking, payroll, and HR, and later added HRLumina Enterprise for annual performance reviews. The new system helped IDRI increase the speed and accuracy of payroll and grant allocation reports, fix payroll errors in minutes instead of days, and reduce HR administration time and costs significantly. With all 130 staff members now using one streamlined application, IDRI also improved productivity and freed up more time for its core scientific mission.
