The YMCA Embraces Tech to Put the Focus Back on the Community

The YMCA faced a growing HR burden at its YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids chapter—nearly 1,600 employees across seven branches and roughly 100 hires per month overwhelmed a five‑person HR team that relied on manual processes and interactive PDFs for timekeeping and onboarding. To simplify and streamline HR and payroll, The YMCA partnered with Paylocity and adopted Paylocity solutions including Time & Labor, Employee Self‑Service and Mobile, Recruiting and Onboarding, Community, Impressions, payroll, and HR analytics.

Paylocity delivered an integrated platform that automated timekeeping, recruiting (integrated with Indeed), onboarding, communications, peer recognition, and reporting, which cut down administrative work that had previously taken “nearly three times as long.” The result: increased applicant volume and faster candidate processing with automated emails, better employee engagement via Mobile and Community, more than 8,000 views on customized Paylocity training videos, and consolidated data/analytics to inform decisions—allowing Paylocity’s platform to return The YMCA’s focus back to its community mission.
