A Pavilion Data Systems Case Study
Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), a leading HPC and cloud-based analytics provider, needed to replace its aging EMC DSSD storage infrastructure as support costs doubled, the system approached end of life, and data and user demand continued to grow. TACC also wanted a future-proof, vendor-neutral storage platform that could deliver the performance required for its Wrangler Hadoop and Spark analytics cluster. Pavilion Data Systems was brought in to address these needs with its Pavilion HFA and NVMe-oF-based storage technology.
Pavilion Data Systems implemented three Pavilion HFAs to replace five EMC DSSD arrays, delivering identical performance with twice the storage density and cutting rack space in half. The solution also provided on-demand reconfiguration, thin provisioning, and snapshot-based zero-downtime backups, while avoiding vendor lock-in through standards-based NVMe-oF and OpenChoice Storage. As a result, TACC gained linear scalability, lower floor-space, power, and cooling costs, and a more efficient platform for growing analytics workloads.
