Case Study: Statistics Netherlands achieves high-performance, scalable data infrastructure with Pavilion Data Systems

A Pavilion Data Systems Case Study

Preview of the Statistics Netherlands Case Study

Statistics Netherlands - Customer Case Study

Statistics Netherlands (CBS), the Dutch government statistics agency, was struggling with aging infrastructure, data growth, and long ingestion times that limited its ability to ingest, process, and serve data at the required speed and scale. CBS also needed a future-proof platform that could support VMware, Kubernetes, and a move from Greenplum VMs to persistent containers, while meeting requirements for encryption and non-invasive backup. Pavilion Data Systems was selected to address these challenges with its Pavilion HFA storage platform.

Pavilion Data Systems implemented two VMware-certified Pavilion HFAs, replacing a hyperconverged setup with disaggregated performance storage and commodity servers. The solution delivered up to 120 GB/s throughput, 40µs latency, and 1.1 PB of storage in 4U, while supporting NVMe-oF, CSI for K8s, snapshots, cloning, and encryption. CBS reported a 4X reduction in data center footprint, 70% lower OPEX, 90% less rack space than the incumbent’s proposed configuration, and a solution that was 25X less expensive on a $/IOPS basis for equivalent performance.
