ICANN - Customer Case Study

ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) faced a sudden cancellation of its in-person public meeting in 2020 and needed to pivot quickly to preserve global participation and community continuity. ICANN relied on Pathable, using Pathable’s mobile event app and website platform (with embedded Zoom webinar links) to convert the ICANN68 Virtual Policy Forum into a fully online event for 2,028 attendees.

Pathable’s flexible platform let ICANN publish a streamlined agenda, embed webinar links, post session recordings with French and Spanish audio translations and transcripts, and support personalized agendas and backchannel messaging; ICANN also condensed its program by 75% to 65 sessions over six days to reduce conflict and technical complexity. The result: virtual attendance on par with prior in‑person meetings (exceeding the 2018 San Juan event), immediate access to recordings, and a strong satisfaction score — 71% of attendees rated the virtual experience “good” or “very good,” demonstrating Pathable’s effective support of the pivot.
