St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (STHK) needed a better way to manage its temporary workforce across an internal bank, agencies, and a Direct Engagement provider. The Trust was dealing with multiple systems, manual data transfers, and heavy administrative burden, making it difficult to source workers quickly, maintain safe staffing levels, and keep full financial and governance oversight. Patchwork Health provided the interoperable bank and workforce management solution to address these challenges.

Patchwork Health implemented an end-to-end, fully interoperable staffing system, initially for medics and then across all staff groups, integrating with STHK’s e-roster, local bank, Doctors In Training bank, and +Us Contingent Workforce Management platform. The solution went live within four weeks for medics and onboarded 1,200+ Agenda for Change workers in four weeks, while delivering an 85% average shift fill rate across the medical workforce in the first three months. Patchwork Health also removed duplicate data entry, improved reporting and governance, and automated processes to provide 24/7 assurance for bank medic shifts.
