Case Study: Jacksonville Transportation Authority achieves rapid mobile ticketing launch and 5.5x mobile ticket growth with Passport

A Passport Case Study

Preview of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority Case Study

Mobile ticketing contributes to an award-winning transit system

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) sought a fully functional mobile ticketing solution to simplify fare payment, improve the rider experience, and align with the launch of its First Coast Flyer Bus Rapid Transit and other technology upgrades. JTA selected Passport to build the MyJTA mobile ticketing app and the on-board validator software with a tight timeline to coincide with these initiatives.

Passport delivered the MyJTA app and validator software in 63 days, deploying the app across buses, ferry, and Gameday Xpress and installing validators on over 200 buses. The rollout reduced dwell time and fraud, generated location-based rider insights for better TVM placement, saved more than $40,000 in print and paper costs in the first year, and drove a 5.5x (550%) year-over-year increase in mobile ticket purchases—outcomes that helped JTA win APTA’s Outstanding Public Transportation Achievement Award.
