Case Study: Miami-Dade Transit achieves faster rider flow and seamless mobile ticketing with Passport

A Passport Case Study

Preview of the Miami-Dade Transit Case Study

Enabling a seamless mobile payment experience across Miami-Dade’s Metrorail and Metrobus

Miami-Dade Transit, part of Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works, needed a single platform solution that could work across multiple transit modes and be implemented quickly. With a growing millennial population, the agency wanted to modernize the rider experience with mobile ticketing. Passport provided the EASY Pay mobile ticketing solution, helping Miami-Dade offer a branded, convenient fare payment experience for buses and trains.

Passport partnered with Cubic Transportation Systems to integrate EASY Pay with gates and software at 26 train stations, enabling gate validation speeds of 200 milliseconds—twice as fast as the industry standard. The solution was implemented in less than 190 days and delivered measurable results, including a 35% average month-over-month increase in transactions since launch, improved rider flow, cost savings on labor and printing, and better back-office visibility through OpenMan.
