Case Study: City of Grand Rapids provides more equitable parking payment options with Passport

A Passport Case Study

City of Grand Rapids drives Apple Pay and Google Pay adoption to 25% with Passport

The City of Grand Rapids partnered with the mobility platform Passport to launch a private-label parking app called MOTU. The challenge was to provide more equitable and convenient parking payment options for all residents and visitors in the bustling city, including those who are unbanked or prefer not to use credit cards for transactions.

Working with Passport, the city implemented a closed-loop wallet within the MOTU app, allowing users to preload funds. Passport later provided enhanced gateway services to integrate Apple Pay and Google Pay. These solutions led to a significant increase in adoption, with use of the new digital payment options rising to 25% in under six months. The City of Grand Rapids continues to work with Passport to enhance the parking program and customer experience based on real-time data insights.
