Safetransport Makes the School Commute More Secure With the Power of Particle

Computer AID, Inc. (CAI) built SafeTransport to give parents and school administrators real‑time visibility into school bus locations and conditions, but their initial Android‑phone–based trackers proved costly, power hungry, and data intensive. To solve that, CAI adopted Particle’s Asset Tracker and device cloud (Electron‑based hardware and Particle data plans) to replace the phone solution and streamline deployments.

Using Particle’s Asset Tracker and cloud platform, CAI now tracks roughly 300 buses across three districts with live GPS, speed, power/battery monitoring, and Google Maps‑based reporting; data is stored for compliance and driver oversight. The Particle solution cut CAI’s monthly per‑unit overhead by half, reduced hardware and connectivity complexity, and enabled faster expansion into new school districts.
