Jaza Energy Uses Particle to Help Deliver Clean Energy to Communities in Tanzania

Jaza Energy, a startup operating in Tanzania and Canada, set out to bring safe, reliable electricity to rural communities where grid access is extremely limited. To monitor remote solar-powered charging hubs and the batteries used by local customers, the team needed a simple, dependable IoT connectivity solution; they ultimately turned to Particle and its Electron device.

With Particle, Jaza implemented cellular IoT remote battery monitoring and later worked with Particle Studios to prepare firmware for scaling to the E SoM module. This let Jaza track batteries in the field more easily, focus on expansion, and grow to around 50 hubs serving nearly 16,000 people while displacing about 70,000 liters of kerosene and preventing 187,000 kg of CO2e emissions.
