Envirofit Supports Health & Sustainability in the Developing World

Envirofit, a developer of ultra-low-emission, fuel-efficient cookstoves, needed to prove and monitor real-world adoption and emissions reductions after a Honduran government program deployed 300,000 plancha stoves. To validate usage and understand in-field behavior, Envirofit sampled 1,000 stoves and fitted them with temperature sensors connected to Particle hardware (Particle Electron) and the Particle Device Cloud to remotely capture when and how long the stoves were used.

By integrating Particle’s Electron devices and cloud platform, Envirofit gained real-time usage data that eliminated the need for frequent field data retrieval, reduced data loss from offline loggers, and sped time-to-insight. Particle’s solution enabled Envirofit to identify unused or improperly installed stoves, target follow-up training, iterate on stove design, and plan future real-time emissions monitoring—delivering measurable impact including remote instrumentation of 1,000 stoves, reduced field visits and data loss, faster time-to-market, and greater program transparency.
