Gilroy Unified School District’s communications system lacked the necessary functionality for rapid mass notifications, a critical weakness exposed during the 2019 Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting and again at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This made it difficult to effectively and quickly communicate urgent information to staff, students, parents, and guardians during these crises.
To address this, the district implemented the ParentSquare platform. The solution was rolled out with minimal staff training and was widely praised for its intuitive, user-friendly interface. ParentSquare centralized all district communications, making it easy for families to receive and revisit messages. The platform streamlined communications and significantly improved family engagement, providing the district with reliable, consistent messaging.
