Papa John’s reduces page weight to 22% of original with Paravel

Papa John's, a major pizza chain, faced challenges with a website that had become bloated and difficult to manage due to redundant code and one-off UI elements from years of rapid feature adoption. They enlisted the vendor Paravel to create a design system to streamline their redesign, prototyping, and testing processes.

Paravel conducted a component inventory and code audit, consolidating the entire site into a manageable library of around 25 components. This redesign reduced CSS by 900kb and JavaScript by 1.1mb, cutting total page weight to just 22% of its original size. The new system allowed for rapid prototyping and deployment of new features, which led to measured increases in conversions and sales. Paravel also assisted with UX research, accessibility improvements, and A/B testing.
