Case Study: Shiwi Ts'ana Elementary School creates culturally inspired shade and energy-efficient entrance design with Parasoleil

Shiwi Ts'ana Elementary School uses Parasoleil’s Quiet Wood shade panels to protect its Zuni entrance and frame Corn Mountain views

Shiwi Ts'ana Elementary School faced the challenge of consolidating two older schools into one new facility while improving sustainability, honoring the cultural heritage of the Zuni Tribe, and easing community concerns about the consolidation. The vendor Parasoleil provided a custom architectural shade solution to help address these goals.

Parasoleil partnered with the architecture firm to develop a shade system using their aluminum panels with the Quiet Wood pattern. This system was designed to filter sunlight and cast natural, tree-like shadows on the building's façade, providing a durable and culturally appropriate element. The solution enhanced the entrance facing the significant Dowa Yalanne mountain and contributed to the project's energy efficiency. The new school building was recognized with an ABC NM Excellence in Construction Award.
