A Parasoft Case Study
Comcast’s Performance Testing team struggled with unreliable and hard-to-access staging environments: downstream systems were often unavailable or under-scaled, concurrent testing caused interference, and frequent downtimes produced poor, non‑predictive results. These issues created scheduling conflicts, inflated costs, and made it difficult to isolate performance problems or run comprehensive tests on schedule.
Comcast implemented service virtualization integrated into its DevOps pipeline to virtualize dependencies and automate virtual asset deployment, enabling testing earlier in sprints and switching between virtual and real services by rule. The results: ~98% of test interfaces virtualized, a 65% annual reduction in time spent creating and maintaining test data, 60% less staging downtime, and a shrinkage of full performance test cycles from about two weeks to two–three days—delivering more consistent, realistic tests, greater test scope, and lower costs.
