New Zealand Bank Reduces Application Risks with Automated API Testing

A leading New Zealand bank and financial-services provider discovered that critical application logic lived inside its ESB — a message broker with 80+ services and 750+ operations — and that relying solely on GUI/front-end testing left a single point of failure untested and high-risk during major changes. The company needed a way to exercise service-level logic directly and automatically but lacked the in-house expertise and tooling to do so.

IntegrationQA implemented Parasoft’s API Testing solution and formed a dedicated service-test team to run automated smoke checks, static contract analysis and comprehensive service tests (transformation, data variance, error handling and end-to-end scenarios). By shifting testing left into unit and integration phases, they exposed most defects earlier (65–100% caught pre-system test; ~75% of defects originated at the ESB), grew the test team from 3 to 10, enabled continuous health checks and repeatable automation, and saved over NZD 2.1 million in testing and development costs in 18 months.
