Cox Automotive Drives Down Defects With End-to-End Testing

Cox Automotive — the company behind brands like Kelley Blue Book and parent of Dealertrack — runs mission-critical digital services that support the entire car-buying lifecycle for dealers, buyers, and lenders. The sheer scale and number of integrations across legacy and modern systems made end-to-end transactional testing difficult, causing too many incidents, downtime, and escaped defects; leadership set a focused KPI to reduce escaped defects by 5%.

They implemented a holistic quality initiative centered on service virtualization (Parasoft Virtualize), stronger test and release management, a proof-of-concept rollout, and a center of excellence to drive adoption and training. As a result, mature components now meet the escaped-defect target (<5%), urgent defects are resolved within seven days, system availability is ~99.97%, downtime has been cut by more than half, and virtual assets have become a core part of development and testing.
