Case Study: Norwegian American Hospital achieves secure, easy-to-manage remote app access and cost savings with Parallels RAS

A Parallels Case Study

Chicago's Norwegian American Hospital Picks Parallels RAS

Norwegian American Hospital, a 200‑bed community hospital in Chicago with more than a century of service, formed a new internal IT team in 2010 after years of outsourced support. The team inherited an environment without a server‑based virtualization solution and reliant on Cisco VPN, and needed a seamless virtual desktop and application delivery system with secure remote access and granular, group‑based access control.

The hospital tested and then deployed Parallels RAS on a 2008 64‑bit server running VMware ESX 5.1 to publish core apps (MS Office, MEDITECH, GE PACS/IW, GE RIS, GE MERS, ADP eTime) and provide RDP vendor support. Parallels RAS was easy to deploy and manage, enabled secure access from personal devices and application publishing by AD security groups, and delivered improved access control and significant cost savings.
