North Yorkshire County Council reduces bin inspections and fuel use with Parallax

North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) sought to implement a sustainable waste management system across its vast region to reduce pollution, save time, and cut costs. They partnered with Parallax to leverage smart city technology and IoT expertise to create a data-informed solution to combat inefficient, reactive bin collection.

Parallax designed and built a complete smart waste monitoring system using LoRaWAN sensors and a bespoke web and mobile platform. The solution provided live data visualisation and geo-tagged reporting, which reduced the need for manual bin inspections and lowered vehicle emissions. The successful pilot with NYCC proved the potential for sensor-led monitoring and provided valuable insights for deploying LoRaWAN infrastructure at scale.
