Pasadena USD Is Empowering Their Students Like Never Before

Pasadena USD faced the challenge of addressing unfinished learning and stark educational inequities exacerbated by the shift to remote learning during the pandemic. The district needed a scalable solution that provided academic support to all students, not just a select few, while also accounting for unreliable internet access and stretching the bandwidth of its teachers. They partnered with the vendor Paper to implement its Educational Support System (ESS) as a key part of their reopening plan.

The solution implemented by Paper provided unlimited, 24/7 tutoring support for all 8,000 of the district's middle and high school students. This represented a massive scale-up from an initial after-school program for 550 students. Paper enabled Pasadena USD to offer equitable, on-demand academic help, moving away from a deficit model to one focused on meeting every student on their own learning progression. The partnership was driven by an urgent desire to redistribute educational access and empower every child, with Paper providing the actionable ability to do so.
