A century old leader in health research and innovation leverages Pantheon and WebOps to streamline management of over 35 websites

The University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, a century‑old leader in health research, faced a growing digital challenge: starting from a flagship site, its web portfolio ballooned into 35+ bespoke program and department sites, creating inconsistent branding, slow site launches, and an unsustainable maintenance burden that overloaded IT and communications teams.

To solve this, the team adopted Pantheon WebOps with a custom Drupal distribution, Pantheon Custom Upstreams, and Terminus automation (with version control and Dev/Test/Live workflows). The approach enabled one communications manager to configure, launch, and support all sites without IT intervention, centralized updates via the upstream, and used automated testing to prevent regressions—delivering consistent branding, smoother rollouts, and a 60% reduction in maintenance costs.
