North Kansas City’s Vision for Graduates Redefines Schools

North Kansas City Schools used Panorama Education’s surveys to better understand student experience and measure its Portrait of a Graduate competencies. District leaders saw that engagement and sense of belonging were declining from kindergarten through secondary school, and they wanted to redefine the school experience at both the elementary and high school levels.

Working with Panorama Education, the district mapped its seven competencies to survey topics, added content to student surveys, and used the data to launch microschools and college and career pathways. At the elementary level, Growth Mindset ranked in the 90th percentile of districts nationwide and Student-Teacher Relationships were up 10% from fall 2019; at the secondary level, microschool students scored higher than peers on Self-Efficacy (+7%), Engagement (+15%), Sense of Belonging (+8%), and Teacher-Student Relationships (+15%).
