How Maunawili Closed the Achievement Gap

Maunawili Elementary, a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School in Kailua, Hawaii, needed a better way to collect student voice data and make it useful for decision making. The school had used several surveys and programs, but they did not provide key grade-level or school-level data or next steps after the surveys. Maunawili also wanted a way to support its long-standing focus on growth mindset and use data as a universal screener in RTI.

With Panorama Education’s Panorama Surveys and Panorama Student Success, Maunawili gained school-wide, grade-level, and individual student views it could act on. The school used the data to identify students needing support in behavior, academics, and attendance, and to share results with teachers three times per year. The approach helped Maunawili’s 6th graders grow 17 points in sense of belonging, 23 points above HIDOE’s average, while the school also reported strong academic results, including 95% of third graders reading near, at, or above grade level in 2023.
