How Maine School Administrative District #72 Uses Student Surveys to Improve Teaching and Learning

MSAD72, a small rural Maine district serving about 2,000 K–8 students, needed a reliable way to understand students’ classroom experiences and support its strategic plan while responding to state guidance around using learner perceptions. To do this, MSAD72 partnered with Panorama Education and used the Panorama Student Survey to gather valid, reliable student perception data without having to build an instrument in-house.

Panorama Education provided the survey platform and reporting, enabling twice‑annual administration, classroom- and school-level reports, and district aggregates that teachers and leaders could use formatively. Teachers used the feedback to set professional goals, have conversations with students, and adjust practice; many reported changes that were reflected in subsequent survey rounds, and leaders used the data to target professional development and track progress over time.
