4 Creative Strategies to Prevent Summer Learning Loss from Maple Run Unified, VT

Maple Run Unified School District in northwest Vermont wanted to prevent summer learning loss for its 2,700 students and found that its existing summer approach was missing some of the need. Using Panorama Education’s Panorama Student Success and dashboard, the district reviewed screening and diagnostic data and saw concerning learning loss between school years, even for students with strong transition planning.

With Panorama Education, Maple Run also used the Family-School Relationships Survey to gather family feedback, which showed childcare was the top barrier to summer learning. The district redesigned its summer programming with community partners, expanded literacy efforts through the Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile and local pediatricians, and used Panorama reports to support budget approval; Muldoon said the budget passed on the first try at town meeting with a 2 to 1 margin.
