University of Essex scales to 10 recording positions with Panopto

The University of Essex faced a challenge in its Nursing Skills Lab, where demand to record student simulations for assessment and review had outstripped the capacity of its costly, CCTV-like system. The university's IT team, led by Matt Softly, needed a scalable and more affordable solution to record across multiple new simulation spaces, and they turned to their existing lecture capture platform from Panopto.

The solution implemented by Panopto used IP cameras and microphones to create a multi-camera recording system that integrated with university modules, allowed for both scheduled and ad-hoc recording, and enabled live broadcasting. This provided the School of Health and Human Science with enhanced control and user management at a reduced cost. Panopto's scalable system created new learning opportunities, attracted industry attention in the Nursing Times, and positioned the University of Essex to replace all legacy recording systems while sharing best practices across the sector.
