A Panopto Case Study

Switching from an on-premises solution to the Panopto Video Cloud

The University of South Australia (UniSA), a large, innovation‑focused public research university with ~32,000 students, had long used an opt‑out, highly customized on‑premises Echo360 lecture capture system. When that system was discontinued, UniSA launched a formal Lecture Recording System project, gathering staff and student feedback and running a tender to find a replacement that met its technical, stakeholder, and scalability requirements.

UniSA selected Panopto’s cloud video platform for its scalability, affordability and open APIs, using integrations to automate recording, processing and publishing into Moodle and timetabling systems. The move delivered seamless, low‑latency playback, searchable transcripts (Smart Search), captioning and easy authoring, enabling better video quality, more blended‑learning and flipped‑classroom activity, and a campus‑wide migration of media—including support for the new UniSA Online program.
