Panopto lecture capture goes campus-wide at Creighton University

Creighton University, a Jesuit comprehensive university in Omaha, wanted a scalable lecture-capture system in 2010 to improve student outcomes and maintain instructional continuity during the H1N1 scare. Their requirements were clear: campus-wide scalability, high-quality video capture, and the ability for faculty to record off campus—constraints that ruled out appliance-based solutions and prompted a short pilot of software options.

After piloting Panopto, Creighton selected it for its lower cost, intuitive administration, streamlined remote recorders and instant uploads, then rolled out the BlueCast system department by department with a standard A/V kit. Within about 16 months the service grew from a 5-course pilot to a campus-wide offering (120 of 170 classrooms outfitted), producing over 10,000 recordings, roughly 101,000 hours viewed, and 2.7 TB of storage used; adoption spread organically as students demanded recordings and the platform even supported large live streams.
