Mid-State Technical College - Customer Case Study

Mid-State Technical College, a four‑campus member of the Wisconsin Technical College System serving many part‑time, working-adult students, needed to meet universal design and accessibility goals by captioning all learning videos but lacked an efficient, affordable solution. Existing tools (Brainshark, ScreenPal, VidGrid) didn’t provide reliable auto‑captioning, and faculty didn’t have time or budget for manual or human transcription.

After evaluating vendors, Mid‑State implemented Panopto in fall 2018 for its accurate auto‑captioning, integrated video storage, editing, and Blackboard integration, training all faculty and adding it to onboarding. Use expanded beyond lectures to flipped classrooms, assessments, mobile uploads and accreditation communications; since 2018 the college has produced 5,830 videos with 256,000 views, provided captions to 1,000+ creators and 7,000 users, achieved strong adoption with minimal support needs, and used analytics to improve hybrid course design and engagement.
