Making the Switch from Tegrity to Panopto 34 Schools at a Time

The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) — which supports eLearning across 34 public community and technical colleges — needed a more reliable, well-supported lecture capture system after long-term vendor Tegrity showed declining investment and support following an acquisition. Facing a tight timetable (their Tegrity contract was not renewed), the consortium issued a new RFP emphasizing service and support and set a one-month window to implement a new platform and migrate an existing library of roughly 40 TB of recorded lectures.

Panopto was selected, commissioned the platforms a month early, ran training for faculty and admins, and integrated with the colleges’ LMS (Instructure Canvas) quickly. Nearly all 40 TB of recordings were converted with streams, slides, and captions retained (some videos even improved in visual quality), faculty adoption was strong, and SBCTC praised Panopto’s responsive, above-and-beyond support — leaving the system well-positioned going into subsequent quarters.
