Lancaster University extends lecture access for 50 extra students with Panopto

Lancaster University faced a challenge when a high-demand course attracted more students than its lecture hall could hold. This led the university's digital technologies team to explore Panopto's live broadcasting functionality as a potential solution.

Using Panopto, the team easily set up a live broadcast by simply checking a "broadcast and record" box in the Panopto Recorder, which generated a URL for the overflow room. This required minimal staff effort and allowed students to see the lecturer, hear the audio, and view presentation slides in real time. The success of this quick fix led to plans for a wider rollout of Panopto as a lecture capture system across the university, with features like scheduled recording and private review folders for lecturers aiding adoption.
