Integrating Panopto into UniKL’s Moodle Virtual Learning Environment to Enhance Elearning

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), a leading Malaysian technical university, set out to expand blended learning, flipped classrooms and MOOCs by encouraging lecturers to create more video content. The Centre for Instructional Technology and Curriculum Development (CITC) found Moodle—UniKL’s VLE—was stretched beyond its design: decentralized storage, bandwidth limits, inconsistent playback across devices, poor search, and unpublished recordings meant students’ access to video learning materials was unreliable.

UniKL evaluated vendors and integrated Panopto with Moodle to provide end-to-end recording, editing, publishing and seamless VLE access. After implementation and training, lecturer video use doubled, every lecturer now produces at least one hour of video annually, students can reliably search and play content within Moodle, and the university plans to expand Panopto for livestreaming, faculty training and onboarding.
